This beautiful valley in Yosemite National Park is now underwater!

Hetch Hetchy Valley was created thousands of years ago when glaciers descending California's Sierra Nevada left behind a spectacular setting of mountain meadows surrounded by towering granite cliffs and thundering waterfalls. In 1890, Hetch Hetchy was protected for all Americans as part of Yosemite National Park. Thirty three years later, however, the valley was flooded for use as a reservoir for San Francisco and other Northern California cities. Today, available technologies and management options provide the opportunity to restore this national treasure, while continuing to meet the needs of all communities that rely on the Tuolumne River for water and power.

Join the growing list of people and organizations that support the restoration of Hetch Hetchy Valley, as long as a fair and cost effective plan is developed to replace the high-quality water and power supply benefits that are currently provided by the reservoir. Help us to bring San Francisco, other Tuolumne River water users, and government agencies together to craft a cooperative restoration plan.

Map showing location of Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, by George Pettit Imagine the opportunity we have to allow Nature to re-create another Yosemite Valley. Imagine the opportunity we have to allow Nature to restore Yosemite National Park's Hetch Hetchy Valley, the place John Muir called "a grand landscape garden, one of Nature's rarest and most precious mountain temples." There is no other opportunity like this anywhere on Earth.

Imagine.
